How Freeing Your Body works

Oboist in tuxedo sitting barefoot in the lotus position on a piano bench holding a classical oboe.

Freeing Your Body is my new, soon-to-be-released audio program
for improving movement and balance.

I’ve based the structure of the program on my own process of learning to play the oboe.
It’s a process familiar to many performers.

First, I was learning how to use my body to play the instrument.

I also learned to listen to what was happening.
For instance, what I sounded like, or if I was playing the right notes.

Then I learned to differentiate between what was actually happening
and what needed to happen in order to let the music come alive.
For instance, when I thought I was playing in tune but I wasn’t,
or when I thought my phrasing was smooth and elegant but it was actually choppy.

And I discovered that listening with my body and my mind together let me spontaneously adjust, allowing what was actually happening to become more like what needed to happen
so music could come to life.

You can learn this about your own way of moving.

Freeing Your Body will help you relax into the unique way you move,
letting it become fully embodied in your self expression.

You’ll learn

  • to become aware of the intricacies of what your body does as you move,
  • to guide your attention toward your innate capacity to feel what really needs to happen so you can move more easily and comfortably,
  • to discover how to rely on your ability to spontaneously adjust so you’ll naturally move the best way you can, without effort or strain.

More next week.
