Teamwork
My capricious tolerance for discomfort and pain makes solving my pain problems confusing and inconsistent. I can ignore constant pain in my shoulders for a long time, but pain in my hands gets my attention right away.
Yet the pain in my hands is tied to the pain in my shoulders. And the pain in my shoulders is tied to my lower back, which doesn’t actually hurt, but which doesn’t work as well as it could because of my less than fluid pelvis and hips.
If I look for relief just for my hands, I may get it. But either it will come back or something else will start to hurt because I haven’t addressed the problems with my shoulders, lower back, pelvis and hips. To solve my hand pain for the long term, I have to look at my whole body and find how I can get everything back to working well together.
It’s doable, but it takes time, effort and re-prioritization of my process so not just certain pains get attention, but every part of me.
This is a problem for many of us. When we only address localized pain problems, it can get confusing. And over time our results can end up less than consistent.
It’s hard to work on the big picture – all the parts of you; your whole self.
But it can be easier if you have a team supporting you. Just like every part of your body works together as a team, you can also build your own team of holistic-minded experts who, together, can support you throughout your process. It has worked for me and for everyone I know who has made consistent progress.
Try it. Seek out experts who can become a team for you. Teamwork works.
