Baby Steps
I keep being reminded that learning by taking baby steps goes deeper and lasts longer than rushing and cramming. Seems even my process of learning to take baby steps has been rushed, and I need to slow down. And I thought I was figuring it out! How do I take baby steps in the process of learning that taking baby steps is the way to go?
Hmmm.
Lately I’ve been watching the baby steps my new step-granddaughter is taking as she learns to move. It takes her weeks to figure out new ways to use her body.
Learning to hold up her head was a major process.
And now it’s simple.
But for many of us adults whose layers of habits have turned this
natural action into a constant struggle,
holding our head up doesn’t feel so simple any more.
Yet, movement doesn’t have to stay a struggle. We can change. And I think
baby steps will pretty much always be a safe and productive route.
Baby steps are what I have found to be the most beneficial way to figure out how to move better. So I’ve been looking at movements, breaking them down into fundamentals, learning how basic movements work and can be worked with. And I’ve found that layers of habits can be removed.
Fundamentals can be restored.
We can re-learn simplicity.
